Barracuda Networks to Secure Windows Azure Cloud Applications

Barracuda Networks to Secure Windows Azure Cloud Applications

Barracuda Networks, Inc. today announced a strategic relationship with Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) to be among the first to offer comprehensive protection for web applications and associated confidential data hosted in the Windows Azure cloud. With the award-winning Barracuda Web Application Firewall, Windows Azure developers will be able to protect new and existing applications in the cloud against modern application layer risks, including SQL injection, cross-site scripting, and session tampering.

Security is a top concern for customers moving their applications to the cloud. A May 2012 study conducted by Intel Corp., “What’s Holding Back the Cloud,” cited that 87 percent of IT professionals surveyed for the report were very or moderately concerned when it comes to security and data protection in adopting the public cloud. Application security concerns are also on the rise, as Forrester Research estimates that more than 67 percent of Internet vulnerabilities happen at the application layer.

With this strategic relationship between Barracuda Networks and Microsoft, Windows Azure developers will be able to secure their cloud applications with the same high levels of protection used in the most security conscious on-premises data centers.

“We are pleased that Microsoft is working with us to address the risks associated with deploying web applications in the cloud,” said Rod Mathews, vice president for business development at Barracuda Networks. “We are seeing an increase in the need for our customers to deploy high-level application security in their cloud environments to protect the applications themselves and the data that resides in them.”

“We are excited about this relationship with Barracuda,” said Scott Guthrie, vice president, Windows Azure at Microsoft. “Application developers who take advantage of the global, scalable, and reliable Windows Azure cloud will soon be able to use the Barracuda Web Application Firewall to provide additional security for their applications and data.”
