Skills Shortage: Assessing the True Impact

Juniper's Lee Fisher on New Tools and Skills Required to Boost Global Defenses
Skills Shortage: Assessing the True Impact

The global cybersecurity skills shortage is real, and it's deeply impacting organizations' abilities to implement and manage new technology tools, says Lee Fisher of Juniper Networks. But worse, it's also affecting how organizations assess their adversaries.

"[It's a gap in] understanding how it is that they've actually got to fight cybercrime," says Fisher, security specialist EMEA for Juniper. "What do they need to do? What requires protecting in their business? Where is it, and who owns it?

"You know, it's very difficult for often a very small part of the organization to have that breadth of visibility ..."

In an interview about addressing the cybersecurity skills shortage, Fisher discusses:

  • The true impact of the shortage on organizations worldwide;
  • Why organizations must change their defensive posture;
  • The new tools and skills to support this new approach.

Fisher has been described as a true IT security 'guru.' It is certainly apt: his knowledge and expertise developed over the course of more than 20 years in IT have helped many customers implement a security strategy that not only safeguards their business and information, but also enables Digital Transformation. A noted public speaker on security issues, his passion and style stand out in the sometimes-staid world of network security. Prior to joining Juniper Networks, he held a number of business and technical roles at Dr. Solomon's, McAfee, Hewlett Packard, Nokia Siemens Networks and Citrix. Fisher leads the Juniper Networks security business across EMEA. In this role, he is responsible for the company's commercial development in the field.
