Fraud Summit: See What You Missed

Session Videos Now Available for Viewing

For one day in October, we had some of the industry's greatest financial fraud experts all in one location, sharing their latest insights and strategies.

And now it's my privilege to share much of this expertise directly with you.

I'm talking, of course, about ISMG's recent Fraud Summit, held Oct. 22 outside New York City. From account takeover to the insider threat to payment card fraud and more, we packed a broad range of topics into this single day's agenda.

And the speakers? They were a who's who of subject matter experts, including Gartner's Avivah Litan, Julie Conroy of Aite Group and federal prosecutor Erez Liebermann, who's currently prosecuting the largest online fraud case ever (see Fraud Indictment: 160 Million Cards).

Well, in case you missed the Fraud Summit - or even if you were there and would just like to share some of the insights with colleagues - I'm pleased to announce the immediate availability of a series of Fraud Summit Session Videos.

Virtually all of the Summit's sessions are included in this exclusive video set. Among the many highlights, I urge you to check out:

  • 2013 Faces of Fraud, a panel discussion that analyzes the hot topics raised by our latest fraud survey. I'm joined on this panel by Gartner's Litan, as well as Michael Wyffels, senior vice president of QCR Holdings, and Daniel Ingevaldson, CTO of Easy Solutions.
  • Account Takeover: Re-Assessing Strategies and Solutions, featuring my colleague Tracy Kitten; John Walp of M&T Bank; attorney Daniel Mitchell, who represented PATCO Construction in its high-profile case; and Christopher Bailey, CTO at NuData Security.
  • How DDoS Taught Competitors to Make Information Sharing Work, with Kitten and Wyffels, joined by Mitch Zahler, senior vice president of cybersecurity at HSBC, and Rodney Joffe, senior vice president and senior technologist at Neustar.

Each of these sessions explores the here-and-now risks and threats against financial institutions. And if you want a peek ahead to 2014, then please check out the video for The Analyst's Eye: Top Fraud Threats to Watch in 2014, in which Gartner's Litan outlines the fraud threats and security solutions atop her honed radar.

What these videos can't convey, alas, is the in-person Summit experience. Individually, I talk with banking practitioners, industry analysts, law enforcement and security solutions vendors all the time. But it's quite a different and rewarding experience to have them all under the same roof comparing notes for a day. I mean, the formal sessions were one fine experience; the informal discussions after the sessions were quite another. It's an experience I look forward to sharing with many more of you in 2014.

Speaking of next year, we're already planning a series of new Fraud Summits to be held in various U.S. and UK cities, so please mark your calendars now for:

  • March 25 - Miami
  • April 29 - San Francisco
  • May 20 - Chicago
  • Sept. 9 - Toronto
  • Sept. 23 - London
  • Oct. 21 - New York
  • Nov. 18 - Dallas

Stay tuned for announcements of topics and speakers for each summit. Meanwhile, to learn more about our Fraud Summits, or to register for a specific event, please contact ISMG representatives at 609-356-1499 x102 or via e-mail at memberships@bankinfosecurity.com. You can also pre-register now to reserve your spot at one of our future events.

Given the evolving fraud threats we see, it's a frightening time to work in this world we share. But given the strategies and solutions shared at these Fraud Summits, it's both an exciting and encouraging time, too. There are some sharp minds now focused on staying a step ahead of the fraudsters and protecting our critical assets. Check out the videos - better yet, check out a future Summit - and engage with these outstanding thought-leaders.
