Why is our training different?

Financial Information Security Expertise
Our course developers have spent the majority of  their careers in the information security and finance space. They are practitioners, teachers, and advisors who have developed information security training for the smallest credit unions to the largest banks and all types of organizations in between.

First-hand knowledge of Information Security shortcomings at financial institutions

CUInfoSecurity.com was founded by a group of professionals who routinely engage banks and credit unions of all sizes to determine where weaknesses exist in said institutions’ information security programs.

These professionals perform social engineering examinations and use the results to make suggestions for improving information security awareness at financial institutions.  Our experience from examining hundreds of banks have helped us develop best-of-breed training & education programs which focus on the major shortcomings at financial institutions.

Our focus is on Effectiveness
A checkmark in not enough!  No financial institutions should be satisfied handing over a checklist to examiners/auditors of who has completed information security awareness training.  Instead, you should be focused on effectiveness and results.  It is often thought that it is difficult to measure the effectiveness of information security awareness training, but we think otherwise.  Our course developers focus on creating truly engaging training content to ensure every employee can easily understand, absorb and retain course content.

We understand web-based LMS technology
At the heart of the training and education program is a web-based LMS (learning Management System).  Our system us designed to make deployment simple -  any administrator can handle the task. With advanced reporting capabilities, a single administrator can comfortably keep track of all user activity.

Course Offerings
Information Security awareness starts with every single employee of a financial institution and our “Information Security Principles” course offering focuses on just that.

Starting off with a basic explanation of information security and why it is important, the main objective of the course is focused on recognizing and applying basic good security practices throughout and employee’s work day.

The course is presented in a unique “day in the life of” style, and presents employees with scenarios starting with their morning commute and ending with the ride home.  Some of the topics covered include:

  • Being aware of information disclosure outside of the institutions
  • Proper building access
  • Personal computer best practices
  • Email best practices
  • Fax, copier and printer security
  • Voice and phone security
  • Workspace security
  • Shredding and document disposal

Securing your workspace – approximate duration: 15 minutes. Quiz questions: 10 random

At the heart of every employee work day is their personal workspace.  An employee’s workspace holds access to all kinds of sensitive documents whether they be stored on their computer, in a filing cabinet, or on their physical desk top.  Proper workspace security practices are essential to ensuring sensitive information does not get into the wrong hands.

The course starts examining the different types of information that need to be secured with an overall objective of maintaining a secure workspace, whether an employee is at his/her desk or not.

The “Securing your workspace” course is presented using a “virtual desktop” style.  Different areas of the desktop are focused in on, revealing security concerns.  Some of the topics covered include:

  • Shared resources (printers, copiers & fax machines)
  • Basic computer security best practices
  • Physical desktop security
  • Proper document disposal
  • Cabinet and storage area security
  • Bags, pockets and clothing
